Message: Well I have made several post, with great answers back. So will make another. I have a 99 dakota, 2wd, 5.2 with 5 speed manual. It tends to fluctuate at idle when I drive in traffic, the cat. rattles when at idle. I have read past threads regarding belly pan gasket and check the throttle body etc. Honestly I am not sure if that is my problem (other than the fact I have no idea what a belly pan is). I have been noticing a drop in power over the past 1.5 weeks. Well last saturday I had a HUGE drop in power. My low end seems the same but as soon as it hits about 2400 rpm it craps out. It makes a growl like I have an intake set up, but I don't just stock. I changed the plugs, cap, rotor, and wires in hopes that could be a problem. A $100 later it made no difference. Put it this way, my buddy has a 2001 tacoma pre runner with 32" tires. 4 cylinder automatic. He is much faster than my 5.2 v8 manual. What the hell is the problem? I need to make a few drives well over and hour, but now I am afraid to drive the truck up the street in fear of it breaking down. I tried to contact so cal dakotas and have not had a call back. I can't afford Dodge service dept. HELP!!!

Message: change the cat or get rid of it. if it's rattling it is coming apart inside and plugging your exhaust.

Message: Do I need a cat box for a 99 5.2? or can I just cut a straight pipe for now. I don't have the funds to get a new cat. converter.

Message: Hey thanks everyone. Just spent $300 for a new cat. and installation. My truck is running very well now. Power is back to where it was before the drop off. I still need to change the belly pan gasket though, but I am very pleased with the power increase. You would have laughed if you saw how much crap fell out of the cat when they cut it off. It didn't rattle too much but that was really surprising when they cut it.
Thanks again everyone!!!
