Message: What is the best way to increase bottom end hp & torque? I want more when I am pulling a box trailer. I have a 99, 5.2L, 3.92 rear end. Is a superchip programmer and cold air intake gonna do it? Is it the best option for bang for buck?

Message: I also wondered if the only gains from these mods were at the high end. I don't understand this either, if the only thing a superchip tuner does is allow you to raise the rev limiter and the top speed limit, how does it increase hp & t? Are ther other things the tuner allows you to do that I don't know about?

Message: advances timing mostly. more torque from a reflash superchips and 93 octane. should be low end and top end. that's a good rear end. keep it. some cams are good torque cams. start looking into that too.

Message: the superchips increases power everywhere. I have one but am not curently using it because of gas prices it does also have a towing option which I haven't tried yet. I also have a cold air intake and it did increase low end torque I have a 4x4 5.2L 5 speed with 3,55 and I have plenty of low end I can drive around under 2000 rpm all day long. It towed a friends baot without a problem also I do have a bunch of otherr mods now also.

Message: cai are not really designed for low end torque. put one on a dyno and won't help as much as top end. may help some low end, but is especially designed for top end. same 200 could be put towards a cam if you need low end. .02
my cams KILLED my cai

Message: You want torque. You already have a pretty good combination for pulling that with the 3.92 gears. The extra spark advance from a flash or chip can help all rpms.

Message: Too much advance in heavy load conditions can lead to trouble. That is why it is not recomended to tow with a DC performance PCM.

Message: knock knock, whos there, engine pinging under load. n-e-way, superchips does have a tow mode which requires 93 while towing but about half the timing advance so you don't ping too badly. with a programmer you have that control.

OK, what is a DC performance PCM? I don't understand all these things......PCM=Power Control Mod, DC=?? also, what are you talking about when you say putting in a PCM? is that the same as getting the superchip tuner? would I need to get a new PCM if I got a tuner? I don't understand.....also, does anyone have any dyno results or something else that would shoe how much and WHERE the gains are for adding tuner and/or cold air intake?

Message: DC = Daimler Chrysler (MOPAR). Stock PCM is all you want with that tuner, like they say, you don't want too much advance towing. Any pinging you can hear is bad.

Message: The Mopar PCM is the computer for your truck. The Mopar unit is not good for towing. A superchips or something similar usually has a tow setting, so you can safely tow without pinging. Also allows for different settings based on the octane of your gas. Mopar is only good with 93 octane.
A tuner would really be the only choice if you need to tow. You could remove your intake manifold and shorten the runners and clean up the inside a little. That will result in a little more low end power. A set of long tube headers should also help some, and maybe a port/polish job on your throttle body. Most of the other mods result in more hp gains than torque, and won't really help out too much for the money.

Message: does the truck come stock with the Mopar pcm or is it something that is an add-on? when you said it is not good for towing, (if it is stock) does that mean I should change to a different one OR (if it is not stock) does that mean I should not waste my money on one? Thanks for you input.

Message: No, No, No. when they say MOPAR PCM it is a factory performance PCM. No way is it the same as stock. different programming. go to http://www.hypertech-inc.com/ and check it out. if your gonna tow this is what you want. if you want perf and not towing get the mopar pcm.
hope i made some sense for you.
