Message: You will gain power you can notice! Only draw back it the excessive noise it creates. I installed a spiral muffler in it's place after running it for a week with a pipe, it looks like a cat and it removed the annoying drone at 65mph for me.
For a everyday driver, stick with the cat. For a race truck remove it, for a mild setup install a tube muffler. I'm not sure how it sounds gutted. Every other gutted cat I've heard makes a rattle sounds I don't like.

Message: John2,
A good low-backpressure cat will only help your rig and won't effect the sound [for most driving]. If you're in a vehicle inspection or emmissions state, the spanking for no cat can be rough,...D

Message: If you have an 02 then you already have the pre-cats and removing your third cat won't really change things much (the computer is looking at the pre-cats, not the third one). It will be a little louder and a bit quicker. May I suggest you not go the flowmaster route and try spintech. Your R/T will perform better with the spintech 5441 muffler.
BTW- I had a dumped flowmaster 50 and it was almost as loud as the truck with out a muffler.
