Subject: Buying high miles. 4.7 or 5.2 IP: Logged
Message: Hello, I trying to decide between two 4X4 Dakotas. A 99 SLT with a 5.2L and 104K miles and a 2000 SLT with with a 4.7L and 110K miles. They are the same price $7995.
Any ideas which engine would have the most life left "assuming they were both maintained properly"?
Thanks
Mez

Message: good question. 5.2 is no slouch for long lasting and i'll bet you can rebuild for a nickel when the time comes. i have a 4.7 and they have different/higher enginering standards now. if you're a rebuild engine kind of guy instead of trashing the truck, go with the 5.2. if a new engine means trading it in. the 4.7 may last on avg 20k longer??? just a guess.

proven engine.
It's like the old slant six. Did you ever hear of
one leaving you in the cold?
