Subject: 4.7L Fuel Injectors question
IP: Logged

Message:
I am interested in replacing my stock fuel injectors with bigger or better injectors shortly after I install my newly ordered HO Cams. I see where some of you are replacing yours with 19# and 24# Ford injectors or injectors pulled from newer Dakotas and so on.

If I decide to go looking for injectors OTHER than those manufactured specifically for the 4.7L motor, what should I be looking for to determine that they will fit my 4.7L motor? Is there a standard to all injectors? Other than lb/hr, are there other factors that limit my using "other than Dakota" injectors on my engine?

I have scanned Ebay and see lots of injectors listed and from what I can see, they all have basically the same design.

With all the tutorials on these forums about doing your own modifications, has anyone done a DIY tutorial on changing the 4.7L cams? All of my engine experience is from the mid 80's and involved a Chevy V-6 with 1 cam located in the middle of the block, not a 4.7L with 2 cams on the heads. I am considering letting Marty at KRC change them out but I want to read up on the process prior to actually getting it done just in case I get a wild hair to give it a try myself.

I did an evaporator core, theres a chance I might possibly be able to handle cams too. If I pay Marty to install them then my injectors are on hold until I start watering the money tree again.

Any help on this is greatly appreciated!

Changing the cams? Here... layout is a little rough but just read all the pages and you will be fine.

I highly recommend the Haynes 2000-2003 (or so) Dodge Dakota/Durango manual. It has a three page section on cam removal/installation, for just $16 at your local Autoparts store.

You are so lucky to have Marty down the street... have you considered his 218's? You will get springs with the cam as well. The springs let the engine maintain higher RPM's without float.

The problem with the injectors is that electronically the higher flow injectors are incompatible with your system. This is due to the current/voltage draw required. If you are not boosting your engine should get enough fuel.
Here is a great thread on this subject: http://www.dodgedakota.net/boards/v8/3109.html

Thanks for the reply, I had read the last URL you gave already and it kinda stinks with one guys saying "YEA" and the other saying "NO" and others in between saying "IF". The best I got out of the thread was that sticking with the #19 injectors but going with 4 hole type instead is what I should do.

I do not plan on going with any more mods other than cams, exhaust and a bored out TB so anything bigger would not really be needed.

Back to part of my original question:

If I decide to go looking for injectors OTHER than those manufactured specifically for the 4.7L motor, what should I be looking for to determine that they will fit my 4.7L motor? Is there a standard to all injectors? Other than lb/hr, are there other factors that limit my using "other than Dakota" injectors on my engine?

Yes it is Graph and I agree with you too but I still have yet to do anything with my injectors. I have 112k on them now and have yet to ever have them cleaned other than the "additives" you put in with the fuel.

I don't mind the "bump" and I am sure there are others out there that might be interested too.
