Subject: Availability of used full time 4wd IP: Logged
Message: I want to purchase a Dakota QC with the DHV full
time 4wd option. I have located a few 04 / 05s
on dealer lots but am wondering how many may be
available used? Does anyone know of one for
sale?
Thanks

Message: Since they don't make many of the AWD's to begin with, the used market is going to be pretty small also.
I have an 02 QC AWD that I bought new in the fall of 01. The AWD wasn't my first choice, but I took it for a couple of reasons. Mostly due to finding a 4WD anything in the South (TX) tends to be difficult to begin with, so unless I was going to order a new truck (...that would have gone against my inherent "instant gratification" tendencies...) I was going to be limited in what I found. They found an AWD in the color I wanted and equipped like I wanted, so I took it.
Now, if you want to buy an 02 at an 04 price, then let's talk :-)

Message: How do you guys like the AWD?
I took a 4.7 QC 2wd out for a test drive in the
rain last year and spun the rear wheels much
more than I wanted. I am hoping that the AWD
will cure that problem.

Message: Not much snow here in south TX, but it rains alot. Every other truck and SUV I've owned turns into a skittish nightmare on wet roads.
The AWD solves all of that. I track around wet corners like snot on a finger tip. The downside is that there is no donut'n, powerslides, or wheelspin of any kind on dry roads.
Milage also suffers, I average 15mpg, give or take a mpg. And it doesn't vary much with all highway miles either (16.5 maybe).
Overall, I'd buy another AWD over 4WD.

Message: Personally I prefer a part time 4x4 system. I only bought the all wheel drive for ease of drivability for my wife. With the all wheel drive I don't have to worry as much. She is from the South and has not had much practice on snow. So the all wheel drive kicks in when needed and I don't have to worry about teaching her when she should use 4x4..........just makes things easier.
my 3 and 1/2 cents worth
