 Subject: 99 318 dakota special?

I have a friend that has a 99 RC 5.2 kota, we took are trucks to the track and he got the best time of a 15.3 or .4, that is running verry close with the R/T kotas. Did dodge do something that made the last year for the 5.2 better than early years. I know they did it with the 03 R/T.
Ither that or he has got one bad azz truck.
Just wondering.....

Mine went a 15.0 bone stock. 99 RC 5 speed with 3.92s and a 1 chamber flowmaster. Of course you know red adds like 10 rwhp! LOL

Just to think only if I could have 3.92s and
surgrip!!!
Makes me think of soiling myself.....J/K!
But really If I did then I could probably break
into the 14s maybe like 14.8 or 14.9 If I could
get a good 60'
Sad thing is I only made 2 passes to get this
time and my traction sux with one wheel
wonder but I hooked up only launching at
900-1000 rpm and thats it! Of course If they
put more VHT on the track I could launch
better. My truck does seem to haul balls in first
gear and second gear kicks you back pretty
good but third is the crappiest and it still pulls
decent!
One other thing I forgot to mention....is that
Jeremys 3rd gear pulls as hard as mine and
slightly better for a second and its a V6!!!!!

Hey DakotaChick1 does your truck have better top end compared to the auto 318. The reason that i am asking is, when Mike and I race from a 65 puch, i pull on him....it is a really small pull but a pull none the less, pls let me know if u have raced a auto 318 in the high end, and what was the out come

He pulls about 2 feet and his truck is still very
respecatble from the low end and surprising
that the new school vs. old school battle is still
rising!!

I'm assuming Jeremy has a five speed and that's why he pull's you for sec. What rpm or you at when ya'll punch off Mike? Hold it at around 2800 or so then punch it. Sounds like he's catching you at too low of an rpm. I'm pretty sure I raced an auto LOOOOOONG ago when I was stock and pulled him hard on the other end b/c I could downshift or get it at the right rpms that I needed to be at. Mike's 318 is runnin at about what it needs to be.....nothing special. RTs just aren't what everybody hyped them up to be. BTW Mike- I have a brand new Hypertech programmer for sale for a 99. Interested?

Well I am about 3000 rpms....he doesnt pull on me until he hits fourth gear which is around 5500 rpms. I think my truck is running slightly better than what I have been told it would run but nonetheless its a great truck and it works fine for me.
DakotaChick1...I appreciate your offer but Im going to stick with a MoparPCM and I might be getting one soon....so no thanks but I have to say the 3.92s with jeremys truck helps him alot and I have to give him loads of credit for hangning with me!!

When YOU are at 5500rpms??? If so, that could be your problem-you need to shift that thing around 5200 or 5300 if you are stock. You're prolly losing hp where as Jeremy's DOHC motor still pulls there.

OK......I messed up typing somewhere up
there!
Lemme re-explain. He pulls on me at the top
of his third gear around 5000 rpms. He shifts
at 5500 rpms....not me!
He hits fourth gear and I am still in third
reaching near the end of that gear and I pull
him decently because his fourth gear doesnt
put out until he hits about 4000 or more.
My truck automatically shifts @ 4800-4900
rpms. This is just fine for that rpm but jeremys
redline is at like 6100 rpms and mine is at
5500 rpms.
So anyway I hope that cleared up some
issues that I was confusing you about.
Although his 3.92s still give him power in the
high end!

DakotaChick, the 3.7 is only a single over head cam..........ohhhhh myyyyyyyyyyy goooooooooood just think of it if they had a DOHC.......i can already feel the power
I raced my friends 03 or 04 Ford Escape, with the hoped up DOHC 3.0L and i have to say that that thing has got more balls than the regular 3.oL V6

I have run a 15.6 @ 92 mph in my 99 dakota cc 4x4 5.2L 5 speed stock with 3.55 gears and an open diff. I had alot of traction problems I had 31x 10.5 allterrain tires on it also. The last time I went to the track my pleanum gasket was blown and I didn't know and got a few 16.2 this was after the mods I've done I'm hopeing for high 14s if I take it again next spring. I lined up against an cc R/T and beat it the first time I went he had a few mods also.

cool 99 dakota! although my truck is an auto, and a 4.7L. (3:55 LSD, and 31x10.5 15 tires) I should be able to run roughly the same times that you did... I have to get to a track soon, so I can post my times too :-)

Here are the mods I've done to the truck now I have a edelbrock headers a flowmaster force 2 50 seriers with a 3"pipe, msd wires ingnition coil brass cap and rotor ngk plugs, a 360 air intakez w/ 9" K&N, 50mm APS throttle body, I also Ported the intake manifold I cut down the runners 2"and smoothed all the ports as far pack as I could I had more work I was going to do but my pleanum gasket was blown and I was running out of time but the work I did added a nice boost it pulls strong from idle till 5500 rpom but I usualy shift at 5200, I also have a superchips tuner which I'm not using because gas is to exspensive,and I also have a dana trac loc LSD but the truck still lights the tires exstreamly easy. I used to get realy bad wheelhop so i have 2 leafspring clamps on each side the LSD allso helped with wheelhop too along with KYB shocks. I've stoped modding my truck since I bought my motorcycle though.

4.7-3.7 are single over head cam motors. They have a single cam above each head so they still have two cams... but a DOHC V6 or V8 would have four cams.

I just CANT wait until they start making some goodies for my small block :P then we will see who is the top dog...
I do have to say that when i was shoping around for a kota i wanted the 4.7 just for the "sound" but when they got me in to a 3.7 RAM!!!!!!!!!!!!! i craped a golden brick on how much pep it had..it would for sure have won in a race against my 97 extended cab 4.3L S-10(with a ram sticker on the back)...when i drove my kota for the first time, i knew i had to have it, even with the lack of power anything, and no CD player.
My truck came with 3.55 and an open Dif, but i had mopar put the 3.92 and sure grip in my truck. And to my suprise my mpg only droped by half a point or so!!!! i am geting about 18.5 now, but on my last tank i got 17.5 just cus it rained for the last week or so, and i just had to go play..........man posi is sooooo FREAKING FUN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
