I am in the process of building an engine for my truck, instead of the timing chain system I am wanting to go with a gear drive timing. Has anyone on hear done that, and I am having trouble finding one for a newer 360. Thanks

Gear drives are strictly for high rpm race engines. The are very noisy, very expensive, and cause more drag at low rpm's.

I have also been thinking about a gear drive. Milodon makes a gear drive system for small block Mopars and will work in a newer magnum motor. I have decided against the gear drive though. I'm gonna go with a Pro Gear 3000 set from Hughes engines. My understanding of the Milodon gear drive is it's too noisy, and wears out too fast. I have no experience with this setup that's just my take on it from talking to people and reading about it.

the only reason I am looking in to the gear drive setup is for the noise

I understand that. While the gear drive might not be the best for a daily driver, it does provide the most accurate valve timing. I say if you've got the cash too spend on it go for it. You can find the gear drive at Summit racing (www.summitracing.com) or Jegs (www.jegs.com). Good luck

I use one on the SBC in my drag car. It sounds decent and allows reasonably easy valve timing adjustment. They will NOT, however, work if your engine has a knock sensor on it. The sensor will pick up the gear noise and totally screw up your computer's timing curve. If you don't use a knock sensor, you're all set to go.

Yeah I'm trying to stay away from all the computer stuff. but one more question, I am shopping around for connecting rods for the 408 that I am building I saw on KRCperformance that they use CNC connecting rods but they are alittle too expensive for my likes, I am just wondering what lenght of rods to get. Thanks
