Message: Does any body know if there is a manual trans that is made by any company that will fit a 5.9l dakota. I always wanted a fast truck because i am to tall for most sports cars dodge is the only brand i will buy. The dakota was the answer and it moves with the recent add ons, but i wish i could say i was making it do what it does also i would like that fifth gear so i could hit a highway. i have called a couple of shops but cant afford the qoutes. Please let me know if there is a cheap option because i still have to pay for school to thanks for any help or ideas.

Message: as far as i know the nv3500 will hold up to the 5.9. there is also the nv3500hd that will hold up to even more so do some research on them two. i am doing a swap from 3.9 to either 5.2 or 5.9 and will be running the nv3500.

Message: There are 5 and 6 speed conversions out there, but they are costly. Keisler makes them, but look at spending close to 6k. KRC has a 5 speed listed on their front page, but the kit doesnt appear to be for sale yet.

Message: If you are diligent (and lucky), you can do almost all of it with stock factory parts. The NV3500 is available in teh Ram behind the 5.9. So that will give you all the drive line parts you need. Some Dakotas - particularly V6's - have a stick, so you can get clutch pedal and related parts. You'll probably have to figure a way simulate the trans sensors to fool the computer. Or get a custom chip burned.

Message: What Rams are you buying with a manual tranny?? I think they only did that one year on the Rams and stopped due to reliability problems with the manual tranny. You can get a manual tranny behind the 5.9L cummins diesel, but it won't bolt up to the 5.9L V-8.

Message: It was an available option for many years. I think it still is, but havn't checked lately. I had a '95 5.2/5 speed, great combo. Unfortunatly, there were not many around. I had to special order mine. When I was looking for a new 2001 truck, the 5.9/5 speed was available. In the Dakota, the 5 speed was available with the 4.7 only.
