Subject: what 4.7 mods to start with? IP: Logged
Message: Ive got a 2000 slt 4.7 4x4 and am looking to get more power. Ive seen these "chips" on ebay for like $25.00 but they look like little crappy resistors to me. I honestly dont have thousands of dollars to invest in performance but i would like to go faster. I know i cant go wrong with a cold air intake but which one? I live in Telluride Colorado at 8500 ft and get a consistent 16 mpg when i keep my foot light, but when i go to lower elevations i notice a huge difference in performance as well as mileage. What can i do to get more power without breaking the bank? My truck is totally stock but still kicks ass!

Message: 2 best mods for '00 - HO cams, and the Leach flash for your PCM. Skip the resistors and do it right.

Message: I was under the impression that a cam replacement was a big project. Where could i find some info as far as instructions and such? Would i have to replace the lifters as well? Would i have to remove and send away my pcm to perform a Leach flash? Also, is a throttle body spacer worth the effort?

Message: cams are a big torque improvement sonny. the resistor mod is good too, but get something from radio shack after you research it cause that's what ebayers do then give you instructions, then mark it up. cams first buddy. mine feels almost a liter bigger.

Message: so what is involved with cam replacement? i guess you pull the radiator and swap them out. Is it that simple? Did you do yours yourself? Where should i buy them?

Message: There's lots of info on the cam swap if you use this site's search. Many of us have done it ourselves, no need to pull radiator. You do have to send PCM out to have it flashed, I ran a boneyard one while waiting.
