Subject: Flowmaster for 4.7L IP: Logged
Message: I am considering installing a Flowmaster 50 Series Delta Flow or 70 Series (both 2.5" in/2.5" out) on my 2002 4.7L QC. I want something that sounds a bit better than the stock muffler without being too loud and may offer some improved performance as well. Anyone that's installed one on their Dakota have any comments? Thanks.

Message: I have the 70 series on my truck. With the stock cat it was still fairly quiet at idle and had a more aggressive sound under acceleration (than stock). I like the mellow tone of it myself. I didn't want anything that was gonna resonate into the cab while I was just cruising down the road.

Message: I have a MagnaFlow on my truck (don't know what size the in and out are) and I think that it sounds great. Not much noise in the cab at crusing speeds (65 - 75) and a nice mellow tone when at idle.
I didn't really notice any loss once it was installed.

I've got the 2 chamber (40 series I believe). Sounds very impressive. Granted it's louder than most, but in the cab it's not bad at all, very pleasing sound. Outside it's all business,,,got a great 'pop' to it as the rpm's drop.

Message: People gave me a hard time when I told them I was putting a Flowmaster on... "those things are junk..."! Well... I know my stuff and I went ahead and put a 40 series (2 chamber) Flowmaster on my truck for less than 70 bucks! Turns out people think I have some $300 cat-back system on and it sounds PERFECT! Not too loud but definitly aggressive when you get on it! I just placed it were the stock muffler was and kept the stock exit pipe (why pay more for plumbing) within an hour. Thats it! I love it and it was cheap. Don't bother with the Delta/SUV series, they are too quiet IMO.
I'm not knocking good cat-back systems (I use a Borla set-up on my Jeep) but its always fun to give ideas that work and also cost less money!! hehe...

Message: The shop installed the flowmaster 50 on a 45 degree angle due to the tight clearence between the driveshaft and frame. Any thoughts about this?
