Message: The GenIII axle will fit but the shock mounts are in a different place. You will need to reweld the brackets into the correct location. The axle is a little wider, but not by too much. However, I think your bigger problem will be the axle splines. I think the 94 trucks still had a 27 spline axle. GenIII trucks have a 29 spline axle. You may run into problems there as a result. If you are serious about swapping out rear ends, look into adapting an E-body 8-3/4 axle. Much stronger than stock, and parts are plentiful. Check www.bionicdodge.com for a good writeup on how to do it on a GenII truck.

Message: sneezer,
the axle spline count wouldnt really matter if you swapped the whole rear. That would only get in the way if you were changing axles or carriers

Message: Thanks for all the information. I am trying to find a rear end from a R/T so that I can measure things out and see what I have to do. I really dont want to use the 8 1/4 that is in it now. I would hate to sink a bunch of money and time into it and have it just break. I ve heard the 8 1/4's are not all that great to start with. Once again Thanks and any more info would be appreciated.

Message: What year 8 1/4 do you have and how much has been done to it? I know before the 360 was built and put into the truck I grnaded the rear end that came with the truck. Hind sight is 20/20 if I would have thought I was going to go the way I went with this truck I would have solved the problem then. Oh Well. What can you do! Thanks For the responses.
