Message: Dak Sue, I have an 2002 quad cab 4*4 automatic 4.7.From what your describing my truck is doing the same thing. It does not matter if it is warm or cold, when stopped at a light in drive then letting of the brake and not hitting the throttle, the truck shakes forward, almost like something is slipping or not grabing in the transmission. The idle is fine, the normal 500 to 550 rpm.I brought my truck to the dealer they said they could not feel anything. This time I am going to make the shop forman ride with me.Also my wife`s 2002 neon did the same thing for a while but then went away. I dont know?

Our 2000 Dak did the same thing. It was a slipping more than a bounce. Always after exiting the freeway and coming to a complete stop and then letting your foot off the brake. My husband and I both experienced it, of course the repair shop never did, it no longer happens In the course of other repairs we have had the brakes replaced as well as the rotors and the tires are a larger size. It never mattered if it was hot or cold. We never touched the shocks, transmission or the throttle so I hope that helps a little.

Message: Well, now that we know that the truck is not actually bouncing...
The PCM uses three variables to sense when it should change gears in the transmission; Engine RPM, vehicle speed and throttle position. These calculations take a bit of time. If you come to a full stop suddenly the pcm may not change into low gear until the vehicle is moving again; so you let off the brake and the tranny is in, say, third or fourth, it senses the three variables and then changes to the appropriate gear being first.
Just a thought.

Message: Dak Sue, I found that TSB but, it was for a Jeep. Anyway, this might help you. You need to pull the rear driveshaft off, clean the splines and regrease with high pressure, high temp grease and reinstall the drive shaft. Don't forget to use locktite on the bolts. Good luck!
