Message: Would my 93 - 5.2 2WD CC auto benefit much from installing a hi performance muffler and larger tail pipe?
(still running the cat) Or would all I realize is a better sounding truck?

Message: I just install a Dynomax Super Turbo Muffler with 2 3/4 pipe from front to back. I cut off the cat-converter and welded a 2 3/4 pipe to the y-pipe, expanded just enough to get it over the y-pipe. The truck sounds great. It's not to loud at an idle, still sounds like a good low tone rumble during acceleration. But performance wise it is hard to tell a difference. Anytime you can improve the flow of exhaust from the motor it has to benefit the performance. Jegs sells a kit with tailpipe and muffler. You also get a short pipe that is equal to the length of pipe coming out of the converter before the muffler. It would be better to just buy the muffler and tailpipe from a parts store. Buy a length of 2 3/4 pipe from a muffler shop to go from the y-pipe to the muffler. Have the shop expand the pipe for you at the y-pipe end. The new muffler will mount in the same location.
