Subject: cooling problem on '99 dakota IP: Logged
Message: hi,
i am deaf and i own 99 dakota v8 slt model for 5 yrs then i have problem in water pump maybe cuz when i drove long time then arrive to traffic light and stalled on me. i was like wtf? i feel it a water pump cuz i found it leaking under it. do anyone have that experince? im baffled cuz it never happened to me also i have good knowledge of mechanicsm on motor but electric/computer got me worried a bit and it kind of confusing. now i dont trust that electric/computer anymore and i tried to figure it out. i checked antfreeeze,it was low(draining thru water pump), over flow was fine. i hope it a water pump, if not the it electric sh.. then im screwed when it cost more than fuc..parts. also i was told a 347.00 water pump job since i could it my own less than that. im gonna fix that sh.. then rid of it fast then run back to chevy lol. i hope anyone give a pointer to that problem then hopefully solve it.
thanks,
josh

Message: I replaced my water pump around 78,000 miles. I don't remember how much I spent, but for <$100
I replaced the pump & bought 2 gallons of coolant.
The orange stuff, too! I got it in Auto Zone w/o core charges - go figure!
A few months before, I converted over to the Black
Magic fan ( ~$150) so now the new pump isn't getting
strained from the OEM mechanical fan.
You said $347 to fix it, did the shop say how long
tha labor is & how much for a pump/gasket/coolant?

Message: I replaced my water pump on my 99 Dakota at 103k miles. Was leaking and running warm. Obviously, no problems since. I now have 112k on the truck and still running strong. Gotta love the 5.2L!

Message: I had mine replaced at about 50k miles. Same symptoms, leaking from water pump. My temp never rose because I caught it early.

Thought the pump came with the gasket - least at
Auto Zone - or they forgot to charge me! =) It was
something like 75-80 bucks for the pump (reman from
the looks of it). I didn't change the hoses on my 99
5.2L since they looked in good working order. Anyone
who upgraded to the Black Magic 150 elec. fan - it's
recommended IMHO, that you remove it.
Is the 3.3 hours labor for the pump only or everything
included? If you have them do it, maybe you can shave
some time off the cost of labor & do the hoses & anything
else yourself.
