Subject: 12.3 MPG .....My best so far. IP: Logged
Message: I went to the Dunes (near Yuma) this weekend. I had a heavy Yamaha Warrior in the bed of my truck with my 12 foot trailer haulling another Yamaha Warrior and a 3 wheeler. The trailer and bed of the truck were packed full with 4 ice chests and camping gear for the three of us.
I drove about 75MPH most of the time, getting to 85MPH a few times and leaving it in overdrive. When it needed to downshift I let it.
I've made this same trip several times and the best so far was 11.2 +/- MPG and the worst was 9.5 MPG because I tried it with the OD off that time.
This time I was able to drive from West Phoenix all the way past Yuma to the sand dunes (Gordens Well) and filled back up on the way back through Yuma. Driving habits about the same. I was surprised at the improvement. The only explaination I can think of is that I removed my IAT inline resistor (which caused random check engine lights) and it's been over a month of not resetting the PCM.
I kind of wonder if I could break 20MPG doing that trip unloaded. BTW I've got a QC 4X4.
There's our camp. I had the trailer unhooked to unload the 3rd quad out of the bed.

Message: I don't know how much the 4x4 is going to affect your mileage, but I drove (00 4.7 CC with minimal mods) from Vegas to Wisconsin last spring and averaged 19MPG. Going across Nebraska I averaged 21+ mpg. On the trip back the mileage was down 1 MPG because I was fighting a head wind most of the way back. I put about 30K on my truck each year and get about 18MPG, but that's driving in the town, mountains and haulin 85 down the freeway all the time. Pulling the boat with OD off I get about 13mpg, 3500-4000# camper with OD off 11mpg.

Message: I got 12.5 pulling a horse trailer a couple weeks ago, running about 65 with OD on. That's towing about 5000 lbs. Sounds like your doing about average to me

Message: No diff gas. I think some of it has to do with the fact that I haven't played with anything in a while. I mean, no mods, no resetting the PCM on a bi-weekly basis or anything.
The PCM may have peaked the efficiency finally. And the fan is off again. Only running the electric. Temp never went over 1/3 going up the hills. Oh yeah. No A/C running either. But the A/C never really has much effect on the truck anyway.
