Message: Congratulations! I am also a recent proud owner of a 2001 Quad Cab SLT 4.7L, towing package with the 3.92 axle ratio. I bought it in July with 45,000 miles on it for $13,900. I have been happy with it, did some of the preventitive maintenance things myself such as; a new pcv valve, plugs, new front brakes belt and all filters. My front suspension has the inevitable Dakota squeak in it, thanks to this website I have many ways I can fix it.

Message: How do I know what axle ratio mine is? Everyone who I've asked told me 3.55, but did 3.92 come std. with the towing package? Did 3.92 only come in 2wd?
Mine is a 4.7 with 4wd and the std. towing package.

Message: chris v,
the 2001 may have felt more responsive due to longer intake runners. it helps low end torque pretty good. shouldn't be too much heavier from what i hear except for the quad cabs for 05 are much heavier. just heresay, i haven't seen numbers. if you buy the 01 you'll still have money left over for some ho cams and be killing the 05. but i understand the appeal in a new truck.

Message: 3.92 is NOT included in tow package - there have been some misleading posts on this. No need for higher octane with HO cams.

Message: Is there a code on the drivers door tag that will tell me what axle ratio it has?
Anybody know the answer to my warranty questions at the end of page 1?

Message: The warranty on a 2001 Dakota is the 3 year/36,000 mile. The 7/70,000 factory powertrain warranty did not take shape until 2002 model years.

Message: I bought a 2WD with the 4.7 in 2000. My truck came standard with a 3.55 limited slip. I went to the dealer and bought a complete 3.92 possi. It sure picks up and goes. However make sure you reprogram your computer for the different gear ratio and if you've installed larger wheels and tires have the dealer adjust the wheel size also. Check out my Dakota at www.cardomain.com/memberpage/478710 and tell me what you think.

Message: Is it possible that my 2001 quad cab, 4.7L, 4x4, 3.55, with the stock tow package didnt come with a LSD? This seems pretty strange to me. Is there anyway I can find out if it is a LSD? Maybe a tag on the rear end? A code on a door tag? The sticker in the glove box only says 3.55 for the axle ratio and says nothing about a LSD anywhere on it. Is it possible that it is a LSD but has worn out? I want to find out fast so I can take it back and have it fixed under my 30 day warranty because it will be easier with less questions asked than using my other warranty that I purchased.
Thanks

Message: Very possible, most come with the open rear; so why does this this strange to you ? You can't fix what isn't broken. LSD is an option that would be billed extra when the truck was built.

Message: I thought it was strange because I guess I figured most 4wd trucks come with a LSD. Maybe I'm just used to Fords. Does anybody know how expensive it would be to change out the pinion or whatever gets changed to make it a LSD? I have a friend who is a dodge guy that owns a shop so he would install it for me, but how much would the parts cost and what would be the best place to get the parts? Dealer? Websites? Any other brands that work well?
