Mine is due for a change and I was wondering where the drain plug is and if I can get to it without removing the splash shield. I had it done at the dealer once and I think they just unhooked the lower hose. This approach looks like it would only drain about half the radiator though.

Drain plug is lower DS rad. and it is easier to remove the shield on that side.
Also remove the drain plugs in the block, but some A-hole decided to put the DS plug behind the starter on the 4.7 and the 5.9.
What geniuses.

Mine is a '01 5.9, but I'm sure the radiators are the same. I just did this a few weeks ago, and it was easier than I thought it would be.

Both the petcock and drain tube are located on the lower DS of the radiator, on the side of the tank. You can access them both through the fascia holes that look like tow hook holes.

There's a rubber drain tube, one end is connected to the petcock, and one end is connected to an empty stud for safe keeping. Pull out the top of the loop, and aim that at your drain bucket.

The petcock doesn't look like a petcock; it looks more like a tabbed control knob. Reach in there with a pair of pliers and pull it straight out. Rotate it counter clock wise 190* - yes, that's 190*.

You don't have to remove any of the plastic panels, or replace any disposable fastners.
