Message: I have a 2002 4.7L dakota 3.55 open, auto trans
I have the following mods so far. Intake, 69mm TB(I ported and polished it myself) HO cams, 6.6KOHMs of resistance inline with AIT sensor, TPS voltage at .71V. I have two ?'s
1. My intake I built uses a very large filter capable of flowing about 800CFM it's big. could this bee to large of k/n filter or does it matter?
2. I have no exhuast mods because I heard you loose power from them, but is the stock one able to support my mods?
* I have no problems with my truck only a little hesitation when I get on it from a stop, it's like a .5 sec wait before it gets moving real nice at about 2800rpm. How can I get an improvement from this hesitation. It's also like that every time I touch the pedle a split second of hesitatiopn then a whole lotta go......

Message: What was the original TPS voltage?
Mine was .40v. I had the hesitation you mentioned.
I did the speedtweaks fix and now the TPS is at .74v with no hesitation.
'00 Intense Blue Dak CC 4x4 auto 3.55 gears
Airaid intake/modular intake tube
Fastman 68mm
Autolite 3923 plugs
Kenne Bell Optimizer II
Gibson shorty headers/single sweptside cat-back
I used to have an Intense Performance Z-tube w/9" powerstak filter along with the above mods. It pulled great above 3000rpm but below that it felt a bit weak. That Z-tube flows a sh*tload of air. I changed over to the Airaid combo and it felt as if some of the bottom end came back.

Message: If you suspect it might be the intake, try putting the stock one back on and see if the problem goes away.

Message: I don't think all aftermarket exhausts cause power loss. I replaced my '00 QC muffler with a cheap($40.00)Pace Setter turbo muffler and I gained 1 MPG(no BS, it's consistant since I replaced the muffler), have a nice throaty sound(but not loud)and the truck doesn't kick out of OD as often when climbing hills. Seat of the pants says it's more powerful. I really only changed it because the original rotted out and I happen to have this one on my garage shelf for about 9 years, so I thought I would give it a try. I'm sure the same, if not better results can be had from better mufflers.
Your hesitation could be caused by a failing TPS or map sensor. Try removing and cleaning the map with electrical cleaner(NOT CARB CLEANER). It's typical for them to get dirty and give false readings.
Another thing to look at is the IAT mod you have. I don't think a fixed value is a good thing overall(MY EDUCATED OPINION GUYS). I've found the best thing to do with the IAT is to just put it in the air tube between the TB and the filter. This will give you the truest intake air temp AND allow the PCM to function correctly as designed.
I don't think a filter that is bigger than necessary will effect anything. The engine will only take in what it can use so I would say a bigger filter is better than one that is too small(thus choking the engine).

Message: well I took off the the sensors and cleaned them with electrical cleaner, This seemed to help a little, but only in the fact that it idles much much smoother now. I also found that my Throttle cable had a lot of slack in it on the TB almost enough to get it off without turning it. I found a way to tighten this up about 1/4 inch and found this got rid of my hesitation when I hit the pedel. Where is the map I would like to clean it now to since everything else has been cleaned, Thanks for the help and ideas.

Message: well here is abit of an interesting update. I went to the track last night to get a few runs in before the real winter gets here and ran 14.8 @ 96mph (Best) this is great considering my last time was 15.2 (best)it seems that the Throttle cable really was the cause of my slow times and off response. once I got it nice and tight just alittle touch and away it goes. It's the best feeling in the world to have found what my truck with my mods should feel like. As for times I conclude that maybe the loose cable was not openning my TB up all the way at WOT because now at WOT it sounds alot louder than before. Adjusting this cable to be tight and not loose may help alot of people who say they have a mushy pedle feeling......it sure helped me

Message: The map sensor is located on the front of the intake manifold. It's sort of behind the alternator, but is screwed in to the manifold with two torx screws.
Throttle cables used to be adjustable on cars, but I guess these days it's cheaper to make them non adjustable. I used to use fishing line sinkers to take up slack in throttle cables in the old days once the cable adjuster was maxed out.

Message: I used some nuts and notched them out at the top and then insered them where the cable meets the pedle it took out the slack completely after 3 nuts. This by far is the best thing to do if your pedle is mushy and as a added note, foe this little trick I went from gettin an average of 14.8-15.2 MPG to getting 15.9 tghis week and before you all say it yes I drove it the same as before so yes it did help. Thanks for tghe Map location I'll spray that now to
