Subject: How much can it take IP: Logged
Message: I've got a friend who owns a 93 V6 Magnum dakota automatic. He claims that standing at a dead stop and them mashing it down helps the truck run better he does this every few days or so to keep it running good or so he claims, I tell him its not gonna be good to do that so often as the tranny will go out sooner. He also claims its a 318 with two cyl shaved off? My question is how long can this motor take this abuse?

Message: If you mean holding the brakes while he floors it....no, this is not how you maintain peak engine performance. The proper method is an ancient, often neglected practice called "The Tune Up."
As for the 318 derivation, his explanation is partially correct. The V6 is derived from the 318, but it is not so simple as just lopping off two cylinders. The Mopar engineers actually did the equivalent of lopping off half of the front two cylinders, half of the back two cylinders, and shortening, then offsetting the crank to match the newly re-formed block. Now, I've never done "acid" but I'm guessing it'd be a lot easier to follow that explanation while on an acid trip. Anyway, that's how they explained it when it was introduced.

Message: Kowalski, what's the deal? Is this your way of saying you don't believe it, or don't understand it?

Message: Neither - the flog it to maintain it mentality just reminded me of someone who used to claim that's what stop signs stand for. Response was to original poster, not your explanation. I'm well aware the 6 was derived from the 318, no hassle bro.
