Subject: changed radiator trans light on IP: Logged
Message: Sorry for the long story but here's my story.
So my 2kQC has been running hot for about a year now, but I just didn't have the money to fix it.So she died on my way home two days ago. Just got too hot finally and died.So I had her towed into the dealership and they wanted to charge me just under $800.00 to put a new radiator in... um NO! Now I haven't done anything like this before but I'll be damned if I can't figure it out to save $400. So I just bought the radiator and paid for the hour of labor they already did, blah. Got a tow-dolly and took 'er home and started to work. Now I have never actually bought a ratchet/ socket set... or really many tools at all, I have just collected them over the years. Well with all the tools I could actually scrounge up I managed to take the condencer, radiator, hoses, t-stat and all that fun stuff in between out. Well you know I knew that gas would come out of the condencer when I took it off... didn't know green GOO would spray all over the damn place. That stuff isn't toxic anymore is it? I found out that one of the condencer gaskets was broke. (making a list of all the things I'm going to need after this is all over) Guess I gotta get my A/C recharged too. Glad it's October. Got Everything I needed off. Damn that electric fan is small. Went to Auto Zone to get new hoses because the springs in the old ones are NASTY!!! The lower fit almost perfect. Kinda close to the fan blade, but it will work. The upper didn't have the filler spout on it. Do I need to cut it and take the old one off and put it on there? Oh by the way, Was there a way I could have flushed the cooling lines in the engine with the radiator off? I asked around and noone seemed to think it was possible. Well I guess that doesn't matter now. While I was out I stopped by sears and finally got a good tool kit. (Man does it pay to have the right tools!!!) So I put everything back together. Re-filled the radiator and engine with 50/50. Has anyone ever used that newer antifreeze that says you can use it with any color? Also says something about lasting 5 years or something? Not that I would EVER leave that stuff in there that long? Just wanted to know what kind of quality stuff I just used. So I guess I plugged my IAC and my TPS the wrong way... to each other??? whatever cause I got a p 0505 and a p 0123. No big thing there. The BIG question. Now my trans light is on. Will this go away when I actually take a drive or do I need to reset my PCM. OR is this a more serious problem? It wasn't on before I changed the radiator.
Well sorry that was so long, but the job was kinda fun and saving $400 is the best.
Thank you all
