Subject: Transmission IP: Logged
Message: I have a 92 Dodge Dakota 2wd with the 318 V8. About to tick off 155,000 miles. The motor runs fine. Uses a little oil but the power is still there. Problem is, the transmission will not shift into over drive. I bought the truck with 50,000 miles on it and from the start it would do this occasionally and usually when cold. Recently it stopped shifting into fourth completely. My gut feeling is the transmission will have to come out for a rebuild. But before I do that is there anything I should check? It is time for a service but I don't think that will help and with a rebuild looming it would be a waste. Thanks in advance.

Message: Yep guys it sounds like they need to come out for a freshing up. The problem is that the seals shrink up in the clutch packs and the transmission trys to shift and the fluid flows right past the seals and allows the discs to burn up.
Personally I would rebuild them with a good quality rebuild kit, add a shift kit for 60 bucks and install atf+4 and a big transmission cooler and never touch the thing again.
BEEN There DONE THAT
