Subject: 4.7 L cold air intake IP: Logged
Message: Hey Dakota dudes, anybody got experience with installing/buying a cold air intake system for a 2000 4.7 Liter. More importantly, did gas mileage improve? At 2.00 a gallon the fill-up's are painful as I am sure you know!
Thanks

Message: I've got the 360 air intakez Power Shot on my 02 quad 4.7 and I love it. It sounds awesome and the low end power was up a bit, mileage was up about 1.5-2 MPG. I would definetly recommend it, install was less than 20 minutes, and for only $150 shipped, you cant beat it!

Message: I've got a 2000 4.7 WJ and after the K&N FIPK II, HO cams, Dynomax Ultraflo cat-back, 68mm fastman, 2004 intake manifold, NGK Iridium sparkplugs and switching to synthetic fluids, I raised my mileage from 13.2 to about 18 with a high of 19.2 mpg. This is miles/gallons used, not the overhead console mileage reading. What I'm saying is that you need to make many modifications to substantially improve your mileage. I think the K&N kit improved my mileage about 1 mpg maybe slightly more. The sparkplugs gave me a .7 mpg improvement over Autolite 3923's even though the butt dyno didn't detect any differences. The main reason for spending $40 for sparkplugs was that the Iridium last much longer than any other plug and changing plugs ain't fun. I think pretty much, each mod improved something but, the manifold and TB had no effect on mileage. The exhaust had the most effect at almost 2 mpg but, I'd already made other mods so, I'm not sure if the exhaust alone would have that much improvement. BTW, even though the exhaust is a straight through design, it didn't increase the exhaust db much compared to when I put on the K&N kit. I hope this helps.

Message: K&N FIPK was good fro 12 HP and 16 Ft/lbs on my truck(4.7) I did back to back chassis dyno tests within the 20 minutes it took to install the kit. I also noted 2+ MPG difference. Great value!!

Message: Damn Tom R that is a huge gain for just a CAI, what other mods did you have before installing the k&n?
