Subject: Humming Noise in front end IP: Logged
Message: I have a 2000 Club Cab full time 4WD with the 4.7 liter. I just hit 110,000 miles and have been fortunate enough to ONLY have to replace two of my rear universals. Just lately I heard a strange humming noise coming from my tires from about 15MPH up to 110MPH. It increases as you increase in speed. It is SUPER loud, so I though maybe my tires were worn out (had 65,000 miles on them). I replaced the tires with 4 new goodyear wrangler rt/s tires and now the noise is even louder!!! The oddest thing is, the noise is there when i go straight and make right turns, but it goes totally away when I make a left turn ( a sharp one, not a a lane change). What the hell could this be??? CV, front end universals, steering linkage, a bearing ??? It's a real loud annoying hum!!!

Message: Does it sound like you have off road tires?
You need a new wheel hub assembly. There about $160 from the dealer.

Message: Thanks, thats what the dealer told me today (and he said I should only change the one that's bad even though I have 100,000 miles on it) except he wants $220 for the assembly. Can you tell me what dealer you can get them for $160 at??? The best price I could get even on aftermarket parts was $186...

Message: Just did mine 2 months ago. I bought mine at Fiesta Dodge in San Antonio, TX.
Its a very easy job. If you can do brakes you can do this.
