Subject: Radiator Drain IP: Logged
Message: Part of today's plan was to flush and refill the radiator. It's been 3 1/2 years, and I havn't done it yet. I figured it was time to get off my dead behind and do it.
Si I start crawling under there with a flashlight and a mirror, looking for the drain. It's in the lower left corner, just like it always is, right? Wrong. I couldn't find it! I searched all over, and couldn't find the drain.
So, I'm thinking I'll just pull off the lower radiator hose and drain it all at once. But the hose connects at the middle of the tank, not the bottom! That won't work, either.
The factory service manual is no help at all. It simply states, "drain the radiator". Thanx, that was a lot of help.
As I look at it, I'm think that you have to remove all the plastic bits around and under the radiator just to get to the drain. And they are all attached with single use plastic fastners, which I'm sure are dealer only items.
Any better ideas?

Message: The drain is there. On my 02, it's on the lower driver's side of the radiator. It's a hokey plastic plug-like thing, that can very easily break if you are not careful.
It's also a pain to get pulled out far enough to drain quickly, instead of piddling out.

Message: How much stuff did you have to take off to get to it? Does it pull straight out? Or do you have to unscrew it like the old fashioned kind?

Message: I didn't have to remove anything to get to mine, but I do recall that it's at a bad angle to get at and turn with any force.
The plug unscrews a turn or two, then it gets pulled back.

Message: On my 99 it is also located on the lower left (drivers side). To get to it I had to remove the underbody shroud. I did have to replace 2-3 of those plastic pushins but I foun them at autozone for $1.99 for a pack of 3.
On my 99 there is a little hose (about 2 inch long) that the antifreeze drains out of. Just remember, do it only when your motor is cool that way you can take the radiator cap off and the thing drains very fast.
