Subject: Belly pan gasket leak; options? IP: Logged
Message: When I changed the plugs, I found #8 looking like oil was getting in there. I just popped my airhat (99 318) and looked down the TB bores; oil :( So, I am trying to decide what course of action to take.
Is there a high perf intake that I can replace my kegger with that does not lose any power at any rpm compared to stock? Would that intake not be prone to the gasket failure I believe I am having? Should I just have my kegger ported/polished/radiused/blended...etc.? If I do that, what's my best option to avoid the gasket problem?
I'll be doing some more searching and reading after I inspect my rear diff for its problem :(
At least my attitude is good about this. I have been looking forward to fun stuff like intake and gears :) The timing isn't so great right now ($), but such is life.
Thank you in advance for helpful replies! :)

Message: I was just in Lasdale yesterday off County Line Rd and 202. We should hook up and BS either during the week or on the weekend.
I'm fighting this cold and trying to get out and put my rear diff cover back on. This sucks. I took a nap on the creeper when I pulled it off, haha.

Message: I have a buddy between the 202 and the tracks. It was a BD party for his daughters. I got a call a couple blocks away to drop and run to the Hosp for my G'pa though and bailed out ASAP. He's good, but had a mini-stroke; no lasting effects.
I just cleaned the cover and put it all back together and filled up. I won't know what happens until I take a drive of some kind of distance though. Maybe to Lansdale, hehe. I couldn't find anything obviously wrong back there :( I also pulled on the DS back and forth and didn't get any slop from the pinion bearings. I jacked the rear and spun the wheels and didn't feel anything like a bad bearing either. So, if it wasn't the Lucas additive, then I don't know. Hopefully that's all it was. Otherwise - F'it. I'm gunna hit junk yards for a 9.25" 3.92 ltd slip axle.
What's your week or weekend looking like? I promised to return to my buddy's house soon to make up for running out.

Message: Options depend on how much money you want to spend. About $450 for an M1, install kit and gaskets. No more belly pan, thus no more leaks. You will lose a little low end, but the high end gains are incredible. As stated above the PCM will take some time to teach itself the new settings.
Cheaper alternative - contact APS Precision or Hughes Engines and buy one of their billet pan kits. Replaces the stock steel belly pan with an aluminum one. Almost eliminates the potential for a belly pan failure. Cost is about $100.
You can modify your intake to increase low end grunt by cutting back the runners and doing a little polishing.
