 Subject: 5.2L new water pump leaks

After the OEM water pump failed on my '97 Dakota Club Cab (bearing seized), I replaced it with a aftermarket one - the only one I could get on a Sunday afternoon! After some steady use, I noticed that the new pump had leaked from the hub seal. Thinking it was a factory defect, I took it back and exchanged it for a new one. After install, I had the dealer do a coolant system flush. The second water pump also started to leak from the hub seal after a 2 hour drive! The truck has 245,000 kms on it, but still has the original rad cap. Do you think I have a pressure problem or are these water pumps crap & I'm going to have to get an OEM one?

you might want to check your clutch fan assembly to see if maybe it is bent a little if is does not look to be spinning smoothly when the engine running I would bet that it caused the failure, but if it checks out then i would replace it with a new one.I do not think that a faulty rad. cap would cause the bearing seal to blow out unless the truck is running hot, but having that much wear on it I would replace it anyway, and i believe that you are probably long over due to change the fan clutch as well. are the water pumps you have been getting new or remanufactured, i have not had much luck myself with remanufactured ones.

I checked the fan when I repaced the pump. I did not look bent and there were no cracks or damaged blades. I can see if the original failled do to age, over 7 years old and high milage. The pump I put on was a new one. It was only $20 more than the remans.

i HAD A SHOP FOR A LOT A YEARS > WOULD I BE RIGHT IN GUESSING YOUR INSTALLING REBUILD WATER PUMPS > i HAD SO MUCH TROUBLE WITH THOSE REBUILT PUMPS I REFUSED TO INSTALL THEM > NEW PUMPS ONLY IN MY SHOP
