Message: I have the K&N drop in replacement filter. Truth be told...it did not make that much difference. In fact I plan on going back to the paper filter for better filtration rather than air flow.
For offroad use I want filtration of the fine road dust and the loss in airflow with not make that much difference for me.

Message: If you plan to keep your exhaust stock, I would just use the paper filter. If you plan to change the exhaust, the k&n would be worthwhile to increase intake to balance the less restrictive exhaust. I have a dynomax turbo with a k&n drop in and it seems to be a good blend, but if I go off-road, I put the paper back in for filtration.

Message: When I first got my truck, I really enjoyed the
little nug that I would get when pressed on the
gas pedal. After getting a 3" mangnaflow catbac
I lost that little nug but my motor seemed to be
more free flowing at higher rpms. Once I got my
K&n fipkII kit that little nug was back but it was more like a little shove and sometimes is just like a plain ole shove. I've let other people drive my truck and are kind of surprise when they just start to accelerate and get that push right off of idle. the other things I have noticed are that my truck more responsive and needs less input from my foot to maintain the same speed and also have gained maybe 1 mpg more over stock. The only neg is that this kit does make noise at times depending at what rpm you are at' but just like your exhaust it just lets you know how much your engine is working. I have a 02 QC 4.7 auto

Message: You can keep your K&N drop-in and build a "homebrew" air intake system for under $125. There have been some complaints of the K&N plastic cracking over time. 360 Intake, and a few others, make counterparts to the K&N FIPK. Check the post "What is the best intake?".

Message: I have this system in my dakota http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=38634&item=7926078903&rd=1
I picked up enough ponies to feel the difference and 2 mpg at the pump. Get this system and I garentee you will love it, and all for less than the price of a K&N filter alone. Installation was a matter of minutes.
