I don't know what the heck is wrong with some people's 4.7 if it can't tow.
Even stock mine did just fine. WHen we have gone to the Dunes the other truck is always a family members Dodge Cummins (mid 90's) with a manual. He pulls 4 quads on a 16 foot trailer and I pull 3 on a 12 foot trailer.
I can pull the LARGE grades at 80+ MPH and leave him behind. As I did the Chevy's that have been with. Unloaded my truck rarely needs to drop from the .67 ratio overdrive and I have 3.55 gears. The RE46 tranny loses more power and has a .75 ratio OD so the 4.7 actually runs at lower RPM's so it must have some grunt after all.

Funny thing is, I too was trying to find a 360 when I bought my truck. I was stuborn. Good thing they don't put them in here anymore, because this engine is by far WAY easier to work on than a 360. Beleive it or not.

Yup - can't understand why anyone would say to get a 5.9 if you want to haul anything after so many have posted how well the 4.7 hauls. Just stuck in the past, I guess.

Screw those small blocks. Why go to all that trouble when you put a BB in and have all the power you want????????

All what trouble ? Mopar's big blocks are great; but finding, buying, building, installing one and then trying to get it to pass emissions would be a better description of "all that trouble".

A lot of states don't have emmissions test, mine included. Some states don't allow you to install engines other than what originally came with the vehicle, because it doesn't meet the factory emmissions standards for that vehicle.

I should go without saying, everyone should check the laws in their own state.

After that, figure out what you can get away with. :-)

Its easy to say that everybody is saying the 4.7 is so great.....its all 4.7 owners saying it! Have ANY of you drove a full size with a 4.7 and also a 5.9 there is NO comparison between the 2 5.9 hands down will out pull the 4.7. Actually the 4.7 in the full size is well....sad.I respect that you guys love your trucks and the 4.7 with them and that is great but come on!

Come on yourself - is this full size trucks.com ? No, its a Dakota site - of course you'll see a bigger diference in a heavier truck.

Which is why you will see a bigger difference with the 5.9 then the 4.7 with a heavier load.

Yikes....

Its a good thing you don't have to pass a maturity test to get a liscence or own a vehicle...

I own a 4.7 Dak, love it. My dad has an older 5.9 Ram, its the reason I bought Dodge.

My 01 QC weighs in at 5200# with me in it. Not many full size trucks weigh more than that.
I think the 4.7 runs decent and with the 3.92's probably even tows good.
