Subject: stalling & oil capacity 4.7 L IP: Logged
Message: 2002 QC 4.7 L
I know a lot of people have mentioned that they are only putting in 5.5 quarts in the motor and it is showing full. I did my first oil change today after buying my truck used. Put in Mobil 1 synthetic with WIX oil filter, 6 quarts right on the nose and it is showing right at the full line. Perfect
Just kind of an FYI on 4.7 L stalling or hesitation. My truck would kind of really lightly jerk when coming to a stop and the idle would vary rpm ever so slightly. Dealer didn't do much to fix it, they did clean the throttle bodies but this didn't solve the problem. Sitting on the crapper one day I thought to myslef, if the throttle body was carboned up, that would mean that the IAC probably is too. Sure enough, I pulled that out today and it had a nice thick ring of carbon on it. Cleaned it and the idle is smooth and no more jerky stops. Needless to say I will be checking the IAC every other oil change or so.

Message: just thought I would chime in about the oil capicity... I put 6 quarts in, and my oil shows up just a HAIR above the full mark... about 1/8" or so... I don't get it... I let all the oil drain out every time, and still I get this.. Maybe it has something to do with my fram ShurDrain plug... It didn't look like it extended into the pan far enough, but who knows.. maybe my next oil change, I will pull the valve after the oil stops coming out of the drain hose.

Message: I changed my oil with WIX filter and Mobil oil and it took 6qt and is right at full, no higher.
I warmed it up, let it drain, loosened filter and let it drip for 15min or so...not a problem at all.
