Subject: Rear end help IP: Logged
Message: I need to order a set of pinion bearings for my 95 Dakota Sport. The problem is I have no idea what size the rear end is NAPA says there were two diffrent ones. The tag is gone and the sticker doesn't say. The truck is a 95 Dakota Sport extended cab V8 5 Speed it doesn't have the towing package or heavy duty suspension as far as I know.

Message: I don't have a service manual for the '95, only the '01. But here's what it says about that.
There are two differeentials in use. The 8 1/4" differential The cover is oval shaped, and has 10 retainer bolts.
The 9 1/4" differential has an octagon shaped cover, with 12 retainer bolts.
Hope that helps.

Message: Open the hood. Upper right corner on the hood is a sticker. That will tell you.

Message: The sticker doen't say but I have detirmined that it is an 8.25 now the question is how hard is it to put the new bearings in? I have never done a rear end before just never needed to learn how.
