Subject: Shift Kit Put In!!!!!
IP: Logged

Message:
All I have to say is Dam!!! That Shift kit made a big enough difference to get my tires from 1-2 shift to chirp. But there is a noise now when I shift hard it makes a squealing or sqwauking noise and its kinda wierd? Im thinking its my tensioner not keeping enough pressure on my belt and the belt is slipping??? Has anyone else had this problem with the shift kit installed??

Thanx

Mike

Sorry I don't have an answer for you, but I have some questions about the kit.

Was it a Transgo?

How are normal part-throttle shifts when you aren't horsing around?

Do you have any other mods?

What settings did you choose?

TNX!

"Was it TransGo?" No....it was a kit made by
superior and teaked by a professor I know
who put the kit in for $60 + $80 Kit.

"How normal are part-throttle shifts?"
Umm...well not like I expected to be real
soft...but in case the shifts on normal
accleration still "bump" you a bit....but its a
great feeling....feels like you got something
powerful for sure!

"Do you have any other mods?" Only other
mod I have is a homebrew CAI! Not much of
one but still ok!

"What settings did you choose?" Well the
settings are tweaked within springs and
adjustments...John had the settings a hair
above baseline shift kit settings.

thanks for the info. I'm not finding much about Superior though. Does it also address known issues with the trans like a Transgo kit, or is this just for changing shifts?

The Superior kits address the same issues. Sounds like the line pressure is set a bit high for part-throttle, but as to the noise, dunno.

Yah Gen1Dak the professor took it into thought that I wanted the truck to shift like that so he jacked up some of the line pressure. I think its cool to feel it shift like that and I love it. Although I'm not familiar with issues regarding these shift kits...can someone enlighten me?

My comment was regarding the part-throttle shift firmness. You can adjust this with the kickdown, but this will also change the shift points some, so turning the line pressure back down a bit with the next fluid/filter change would probably be more to your liking, but you'll probably decide you don't want it to change by then. It's always nice to have a re-assuring thump like that. We had this little annoying "friend" back when I had my '69 Charger. It had a slammin' 727 TF with B&M kit, and the annoying one was always sitting up between the bucket seats and talking all the time. At some point I'd get annoyed, and just stomp the gas. He never was able to hold on and would get thrown to the backseat. It usually took 3 or 4 times, but eventually he'd shut up for a while. Man that thing would just leap with 2nd gear. I never had any issues with firmer shifts, besides the occasional comment on the need for a neck brace, but after a few thousand hard 1-2 shifts, if you have a weakness in your driveline, it'll eventually show, and you can upgrade with a better part.
