Subject: good price for v8? IP: Logged
Message: i've got a '01 3.9 and have been researching what it takes to swap it out for a v8. my question is what's a good price for a 5.9? so far i've found a place that sells them for $1140. good or no? it sounds good to me but i'm not good with prices. other engines they have are 4.7 for 2080, and 5.7 for 2900. don't know what would be involved with the 4.7 so it's out, and 5.7 i wouldn't have the time to try. i want a 360 for the aftermarkets available and to make it fairly fast (maybe 12's or 13's). any input or suggestions? i appreciate it.

Message: If that is a new engine, then not too bad. You may also consider getting a junkyard engine. Many low mileage deals can be found that way. I know I can get a reman 318 installed in my truck for $2100 locally. I have seen 360s with 50-75k miles go for $5-650 lately.
The 4.7 is a totally different beast, as is the 5.7. Both would require significantly more work in your case to get working.

Message: Try www.car-parts.com
It will give you an idea what used engines are going for in your area and other parts of the country. You would be surprised at the range of prices. I picked up a perfectly good V8 TB for $25 with prices ranging upwards of $125 in my area.
