what might make a tranny slip occasionally when you mash the throttle like when going uphill or passing someone? it happens between 45-50 mph but does it every once in a while. when it does this, i let off the throttle and slow down some and then I give it a little gas and its fine. just had the tranny rebuilt about 3 months ago.

I read it quickly at work on break and missed the rebuilt tans part; sorry.

I had similiar trouble with mine though. It gave me a problem where she'd jog in and out of overdrive... so I thought! I gave a more careful feel and watched the tach and saw she was actually locking and unlocking the torque converter. My TPS (throttle position sensor) checked fine, but I replaced it anyway and voila' she's fixed :) Are you sure it's in and out of OD, or just a few hundred rpm's from the TC?

Just curious, could this happen if you've done the "TPS mod"? I know changing the voltage affects the TC, but I thought it affects the RPMs at which it will slip out when you're slowing down? How would it be affected at higher RPMs? Wouldn't raising the voltage cause it to take longer to slip out? If so, then it would seem that it would have a hard time getting into OD? I'm not sure about all this. Anyone care to elaborate?

I CAN'T BElIEVE WHAT IM READING HERE!.....so i bought this same truck (91 dakota auto) and am having what sounds to me pretty much the same problem. the overdrive button seems to light up and turn on when i push it. and turns off when i push it. but nothing happens, nothing!. so when im on the freeway the truck seems to not be shifting into the last gear. im doin 70mph @ 3,500rpm's. but there is no slipping. i cant stomp the gas cuz it will wind out 1st gear waaaay to long, then i let off for a sec, give it gas, and vroom! so is it the tranny? or.....do i have both of your problems goober and yosemite? i wish you luck. damn dakota!

have you guys even thought to check the speed sensor? the TPS wont make it kick in and out of OD, jsut make the RPMS jump around, not make the tranny shift
