Subject: Damn radiator drain valve IP: Logged
Message: This is the fourth time changing antifreeze on my 99 5.2, and EVERY time the plastic drain valve never seals up properly when closed. It continues to drip, drip, drip leaving coolant everywhere. It eventually stops after about a week of dripping. Anyone else have this problem? If so, do you have a solution? A shot of penecillin maybe? Get it? Penecillin? Drip? anyway... it wont do any good to replace it. It's part of the plastic tank of the radiator.
Thanks in advance.

Message: my 98 3.9L did the SAME thing to me! it annoyed me to no end! I found that I didn't have it seated all the way... I just used a pair of channel locks to grab it and untwist it and twist it back in place. be careful! it seemed like it was a pretty brittle plastic.... maybe you could just use sometihing to pinch off the little rubber hose that runs from the valve.. or put a piece of something (aluminum) in the little hose and secure it with a small radiator hose clamp...
I bet it's going to be FUN changing the coolant in my 4.7L! especially getting all the air out, with the bleeder screw.
And I got the penecillin joke LOL ;-P

Message: Yep, that's exactly what I did. I couldn't even get my drain to work and didn't want to break it off, so I just pulled the hose. It made a bit more of a mess since it comes out either slowly or really fast, but it works.
