Subject: Is it worth it? IP: Logged
Message: I'm considering trading in my 2000 2wd 3.9L v6 Dakota 7500km for a 1999 4x4 5.2L v8 with 5500km on it. Is this trade worth it in terms of going back one year, the added traction I'll get in winter I get tons of snow and ice where I live. Also want kind of gas mileage diference am I looking at here?

Message: Forget the worth in terms of $$$. If it better suits your needs, that's all the worth you really need be concerned with. Mileage will be a notch lower in general (and depending on your driving style), but there's lots more stuff out there for the V8 Dakotas that you can get to improve their efficiency.

Message: You'll love the 4x4 traction when you need it.
The V8 will not have to work as hard to motivate the Dak as the V6 does , thus the V8 should last longer(in theory).
The V8 has less mileage than the V6 .
If your not planning on reselling in the next 5 years (resale value consideration) I'd get the 99 and live with the gas mileage.
I've heard the V6 gets about the same mileage as the 4.7 V8 because the V6 works harder.
The 5.2 probably won't cost you more than $200.00/year more in gas than the 3.9 .(no I didn't do the math).
