Subject: Rear trans. seal trouble? IP: Logged
Message: Anyone have any trouble with leaking rear transmission seal? I just replaced the rear seal on my 98 R/T last week and it is already leaking again. I used a Mopar seal...maybe that was my problem. I don't have a damaged/bent drive shaft that I could see. Anyone else have any rear transmission seal problems?

Message: Did you lube it with Trans oil before installing? I know it comes already greased. But, that's not enough.
Also, You need to drive it for awhile. Like 2 weeks or so. See if it still leaks. That's how long mine took before it stopped leaking. lol

Message: Maybe I will get lucky, and yes, I lubed it up before pressing it in.
I have replaced hundreds of seals on Fords (which is what I work on every day), but I never monitor leakage until it comes in for the next service

Message: lol,
i don't know what to tell you. Mine stocked after 2 weeks, check the tranmission fluid level and the transfer case. They were both full. So, I'm at a loss. Sorry i can't help you more.

Message: I was going to keep an eye on it, but I have gone through a quart since Saturday of last week - 4 days. Something is wrong - worn yoke or bushing or something. Just what I need for this weekend. Will someone fend off Francis?
