Subject: 5.2 hesitant to down shift IP: Logged
Message: I'm driving a 97 5.2 with 64k on it. Lately it has been hesitating to down shift. Sometimes when I start from a dead stop it seems to be accelerating in higher gears and sometimes when passing it hesitates to downshift. Any ideas?

Message: Aside from everyone knowing that dodge trans are trash, Carpoint.com lists the following as a frequent problem with the 97 dakota transmission and driveline...
"A periodic problem on this vehicle is failure of the transmission Output Shaft Speed Sensor."
Any relation to this issue?

Message: It sounds like you need to adjust your TV (throttle valve/kickdown cable)
go to SpeedTweaks and look under "how to adjust your TV cable"

Message: Okay, I don't think it is the TV cable. I finally took the thing in to my trusty mechanic. He couldn't find anything wrong with the truck at all but he said it could have something to do with the programming? I have used a Hypertech programmer before but it is all set back to stock now.
The problem only occurs when the engine is COLD. Runs perfect when warmed up.
1.) Idles at about 500rpm (seems low)
2.) Stalled twice at stop sign, (while cold) it's an automatic
3.) Sluggish performance while accelerating (while cold again)
Maybe I should try the dealership?

Message: Did you reset the PCM after removing the Hypertech?
In stock form, I don't think it's typical for it to idle at 500pm, but mine does idle 500-600 rpm, but no problems stalling here whatsoever, I've also got several bolt-ons
