 Subject: MIL Code, what to do?

What do I do when I get a "P0442 A medium Evaporative Emission Control System leak has been detected. ** " coming up. My MIL just came on the other day and I don't really understand if there is anything I can do to fix this problem. I am no longer under warranty and I would prefer not to bring it to the dealer (not very trustworthy). Any information would be greatly appreciated. By the way, I cleared my PCM to see if the light came on again and it did. Please help soon.

look for a split/loose hose by the vapor cannister if it isn't the gas cap.
