Subject: Ticking???

Message:
My 1999 dakota 5.2L has developed a ticking over time which has increased in volume as more miles have been put on the vehicle. A friends 97 5.2 had the same problem. He replaced the plenum plate thinking that was the problem but it didnt fix anything. I think its an exhaust leak or a lifter prob. Is this one of those dakota things that go bad or a real prob? Any advice would be of help

I have the same truck, and the same problem. It isn't exhaust or a valve, it is a spark knock. There are several TSB's on it, some saying reroute the plug wires, some say replace the plenum gasket...

Bottom line, I think, is that this is just an attribute of this engine. I have replaced plugs, wires, rotor, dist cap, to no avail, and my plenum gasket is fine (I checked it with the pressure method).

So I have just stopped worrying about it, my truck runs fine, doesn't miss, lag, or sputter, so it is just one of those things.
