Strangely enough, I just saw this on Trucks! In fact, Stacey laughed that you should make sure not to forget to install the opening mechanism before closing the hood to check for fit... otherwise you're going to have a hell of a time getting it open again. heh It looked like there was a notch in the lower grill that had a lever in it. There was a rod that ran up to the latching mechanism so when the level was manipulated, it would open the latch. He did have to modify the latch in order to make the new lever work.
Trucks! Love that show.

It's the one thing I kinda dislike about my new billet grill. You have to actually pull the lever so far it bends one of the horizontal bars in order to get the grill opened. Im thinking about looking into adjusting it in some way.

Do a search for the gutter guard grills. A couple of people had the instructions to make a "homebrew" hood release relocator. It worked like the Street Scenes grill kits where a cable is attached to the release, and the pull is in the bottom middle of the grill section.

I have the SS grill and the release relocator that it came with works great.

Something like this should work with the tube grills also.
