Subject: 92 Dakota hinge-pin pain IP: Logged
Message: I have a 1992 Dakota and need to replace the door hinge pins. I had to replace the door with a used one because the flimsy welded door-side hinge mounts got ripped out when a gust of wind yanked the door out of my hand. What a crappy design! The new door hasn't been installed yet pending installation of new hinges. I have new hinges and pins and have tried everything I can think of but still can't get the either of the old pins driven out. The welded hinges are so flimsy I'm afraid I'm going to rip them out if I pound on the old pins too much. The factory service manual is no help because according to it the entire hinge assembly can be unbolted and serviced seperately. NOT True! The door side hinges are welded. Does anyone else have any tips on how to get the old hinge pins out?

Message: What did you end up doing to solve your hinge
problems? Adjustment seems like another problem.
Any suggestions greatly appreciated.
Keepin' the old '96 running.
