Subject: Different Oil IP: Logged
Message: I was told that you should not change from regular to synthetic oil on an engine. They said that it would make my seals less reliable and I would loose compression. Any truth to this? What is the best oil to use. I have a 318 with 75,000 miles, Ravin duals, 360 Air Intake.

Message: Everybody has their own opinion on this subject, with the miles you do have on your truck, it will probably leak. With that many miles I would just stick with plain 10W30 (or whatever you're using).

Message: Everything that I have heard was basically this:
Don't use synthetic until 10,000 Miles, otherwise the rings won't seat right during the break in period. After which, full synthetic is great.

Message: I ran dino oil for the first 1,500 miles, then went to synthetic, and my engine runs great!
Look at Corvettes...they start off with synthetic oil!

Message: I've run synthetic since I bought the truck at 49K. It's now on 95K without any problems. I actually think it has helped my truck, because I drive hard and can't always change it at 3000 miles.
On a different note can someone give me info on a larger oil filter? I run a Purolator Pure One filter, but was looking for something with more volume, same quality.

Message: Want more volume? JC whitney sells universal dual oilfilter setups ad about 1.5 qts more oil to your system (if you consider the plumbing)

Message: Corvettes, Vipers, etc. are factory fill on Mobil 1, that's true. However, I'm pretty sure they're motors are built to better tolerances than most. I'd still rather break in for a few thousand miles on dino oil and then make the switch on most vehicles.

Message: How often do you have to change the filters in a dual setup? Where the best spot to mount it and has anyone tried this?

Message: Try the Mobil 1 filter. It's $$$$, but has the highest flow volume, and he best filtering of the "off-the-shelf" filters.
I did alot of digging around a year ago on oil filters, and the Fram was the absolute worst.
The best was Amsoil's, and when the patent ran out, Mobil 1 started making it. And you can get it at all the major parts stores.
