Subject: 2000 4.7 plug fouling? IP: Logged
Message: Anyone with some info. would be great.
I was getting code p-0171 (lean air fuel/due to rich correction factor) and pulled the pre-cat o2 sensor out and cleaned it up with contact cleaner. The code does not come in anymore but when I pulled the plugs today, the 4 on the drivers side where coated with black soot and the other side were fine. The engine runs fine but it does smell like it is running rich.
Any ideas why just the drivers side plugs are fouling?

Message: Sounds like just the left bank is running rich, it could be due to a multitude of factors. Sounds like you have a sensor that is sending too much fuel to that side's injectors. Not sure how to correct that...

Message: I did clean the original but I think that I am just going to replace the pre-cat O2 sensor, hopefully that will take care of it. I found some OE replacements from Denso for 70.00
Thanks
