Subject: 3.55 vs. 3.92 Highway RPM IP: Logged
Message: My Dakota is a 2004 4x4 (265 tires) with the 4.7L manual transmission and 3.55 gears. 60mph = 1750rpm, 75mph = 2100rpm. What are your guys with the 3.92 gears turning?

Message: i have a r/t and at 60mph@2500 rpm,75mph@3200 w/ 265/55/17. gas mileage sucks but its well worth it. you also have a 4x4 though.

Message: If you swap to 3.92 gears, you'll be doing 55@1750rpm's, and 66@2100rpm's.
Your gas mileage won't change enough to matter, if at all. But your engine will be into it's power band sooner. You'll be able to use OD, and accelerate without downshifting at lower speeds.

If you're correct about your rpm with your current tire height:
3.55 gears. 60mph = 1750rpm, 75mph = 2100rpm
Then
3.92 gears 60mph = 1932rpm, 75mph = 2319rpm

Message: R/T
Because of your tire height (drive wheels) and gear ratio.
