Subject: R/T owners please help IP: Logged
Message: I'm looking into buying a RC 01-03 R/t and I was just wondering how these trucks hold up. Are these trucks famous for any major problems. I'm not worried about the minor things just the big stuff. I've heard good things about the 5.9 but how does the tranny and rear end hold up on these trucks? Thanks for any info.

Message: Yeah, they hold up great. They have the same ups and downs of a normal Dakota. ie: intake plenum gasket will probably go out before 100k miles. Putting on an M-1 intake manifold will fix that. That's the biggest problem I can think of with any Dakota. Course, once you start modding, all that goes out the window :-)

Message: Mine holds up terrible-- I can't seem to get the HP to stay near stock.
:^)
86k miles, 302 rwhp @ 348 ft. lbs. ---- Loves nitrous, eats mustangs and camaros for breakfast (I drive past JBA everyday on my way to work) ;^)
They do have some common issues, nothing too major--- mines a keeper.

i had about 10 "common" issues that drove me freakin crazy but they were just little things that the dealer was forced to take care of.thank the good lord for warranty!

Message: I would go for a 99-00 R/T because then you can get a mopar performance PCM for it, 01-03 you can't.

Message: Thanks for the replies.
BTW, how much hp would the PCM be good for? I don't really care what model I get, I just want miles under 40,000 and a truck that's in good condition. I don't plan on doing anything big, just an aftermarket hood/grill, CAI, flowmaster.

Message: People usually use the mopar PCM to maximize other mods they've done, it removes the speed limiter and raises the rev limiter amd shift points. It also advances the timing a bit if I remember correctly.

Message: For the 01-03 owners you can get a B&G Chrysler custom flash which IMO is better than the Mopar PCM anyways.
I have an 03 R/T and love it, and ya it smokes the competion just like Sam's!
