Subject: 4.7l bog IP: Logged
Message: Anyone had a problem with their 4.7l bogging at around 3000RPM under WOT? The bog is temporary and the truck recovers and keeps pulling all the way to redline, although it feels like its not making full power. This has been going on for 3-4 months now. I suspected the O2 sensor, so I swapped the sensor after the cat with the one before the cat, but this did not totally fix the problem. Seemed a little better, but still not right. The truck has a miss at idle. Not a bad miss, but you can definitely hear it out of the exhaust pipe and in the cab. Kind of an occasional pfft sound from the tail pipe! I guess I'll take it to the dealer since its under warranty. I have changed the plugs twice to no avail. I have also ran 3 bottles of STP fuel system cleaner through it. Out of ideas!

Message: WOW. If you can hear it miss at an idle, something is wrong. Maybe a plugged injector?
I've had luck removing and cleaning injectors twice now, but on Chevy's.
The 4.7, when running properly, has NO flat spot. That's what is so cool about it. It jumps out of the hole and pulls to 6K... stock.

Message: Would an EGR problem cause something like this? I've noticed the bog when running at part throttle as well as WOT.

Message: Figols, I just received info on how to test the TPS sensor while the wire harness is attached. I will be checking it out in the next day or two. I'll keep ya posted.

Message: yes the TPS is held on by torx T-25 screws. if you have a digital multi meter you can check the tps (somewhat) backprobe the center wire on the TPS (with harness connected key on engine off) and the neg. to a good ground (I find that the neg. terminal on the batt gives the steadiest reading) .76 is the optomal setting at fully closed throttle (mine was at .5 something from the factory). WOT should be around 4.0V or so.... slowly open and close the throttle, the voltage should smoothly rise/fall with throttle movement.
I would take it to the dealer, and pitch a fit about it (i still have almost 2 yrs on my warranty LOL) heck thats what it's for! Allthough sometimes I'm just a do-it-yoursely guy :P

I read my TPS this morning, was reading .602. I am wondering if I should raise it up some.

Message: daffydak, that is what I am doing as well. Occasionally, I like a good challenge. I'm not going to delve into anything expensive, I'll leave that up to the Techs. But I was hoping to enjoy the satisfaction of a successful troubleshoot. Basically, I don't want to be without my truck (my baby) while it's being troubleshot. Usually, it's the simplest (read cheapest) things that give you the problems. Looks like I won't be so lucky this time. At least I've ruled out the basics. Now, when I do take it in to the dealer, they won't have to waste time and effort (both mine and theirs) on these things and the real issue will be diagnosed more quickly.

Message: yeah I hear ya Patriot QC troubleshooting is fun (so long as its nothing major :) you might have a faulty injector or PCM issues. the dealer should be able to hook you up with a fix. Keep Truckin'
Mike; if your TPS is already at .60v, you might not notice much of a difference with the mod. you should still notice a slight diff though (especially TQ converter lockup) and downshifting sensitivity. what was the voltage at WOT?

Message: midnightmagic, I think they (HO CAMS) did more once I opened up my throttle body. Alone I really couldn't notice just from before and after. In combination with the ported 68MM TB the BIG difference is above 4K and especially when it shifts. I'll need to make a video this weekend of it shifting I think.
My next step would probably be some GOOD headers to gain some low end. Then some gears... Just need to catch up with $$$$$ first.
