Message: I have a 2000 4.7 auto trans and I've posted several posts about my tranny issues. However, at the same time I've noticed issues with my AC system. It blows cold air so that's good but when it's on my truck seems to get bogged down way more than normal. I have a dual exhaust and I can hear the tone of the exhaust go up and down when the AC is on and it's not the tranny shifting gears. It'll often change the rpm on my tach by 200-500rpms both up and down. Could this be my AC pump putting a strain on my engine? Since this problem started when my tranny started going crazy I thought the two might be related but I don't see how.

Message: Try checking for a vacuum leak. That is common between both the A/C & the Transmission controls. A leak will also cause a change in exhaust tone cause your changing your air/fuel mixture (leaning out as air leaks in). You can check several ways, the easiest is to get an inexpensive vacuum gage & plumb it with a section of vac hose into the cab. Go for a ride & watch what happens when you hear the exaust tone change. I'd bet you see a drop in manifold vacuum... Finding the leak will be the challange...
