Subject: Stalling IP: Logged
Message: Just wanted to see what everyone thinks. I have a
01 cc 4x4 with the 4.7, and at least 3-4 times a
week when I start it and shift into drive, it
tries to stall on me when I let off the brake.
Any ideas what it could be? thanks
Matt

Message: bad fuel ratio? clogged injectors, dirty air filter, bad spark plugs, coil, cap rotor, or plugs, ....... hows your routine maintainence? is it only when the truck is cold, or does it do this when you;ve been driving it too?

Message: It's up on routine maintainence and usually only
does it the first time it starts for the day.
Thanks for the help

Message: It's a Dakota. Get use to it. Just Kidding.. Go down to your local airport and pick up a few gallons of 100 octane avgas. Your not allowed to burn it on the road (no fed taxes collected) but a couple of gallons burnt off road stoped the engine bounce and cleaned her out.

Message: have you cleaned your iac?? my 00 idles rough for about 5 seconds on cold startup... it has never stalled though (it sounds like it has a healthy cam! :) I read somewhere that there is a comuter upgrade to fix the low/rough idle... I cleaned my IAC (and TB), and it helped somewhat. it still does it though...
also it hesitates on cold startup (in or out of gear) until its driven for about a block or 2 (it only happens under sudden moderate throttle from a standstill) once again its not as bad with a clean TB..

Message: i'd agree to start checking sensors, from the IAC to possibly the TPS, maybe even the IAT sensor... if you can fork it out, try to take it to a dealership to get an engine diagnostic.... I know, I know, the point is to get it fixed yourself, but sometimes with a problem like this its worth your while to get it in to a shop, just to sort it out, then fix it yourself... or have the shop do it, that way if its still f'ed up you save yourself the headaches of having to sort it out again, you can just force them to handle it.

Message: I have the identical problem as blakdak. Only in the mornings when first started, it starts up fine and then within a few seconds it starts idling real low for a few seconds, then returns to normal. It has stalled on me 2 times so far after putting it in reverse immediately after starting without giving it a minute to warm up. It may sound strange, but it is worse after it had rained the night before...

Message: that doesn't sound too strange, after it rains, the humidity is higher, so the air is going to be thicker.

Message: Just thought I'd try something. The past couple
days, after start-up, I shift to N, give it a few
revs, then put it into D, runs fine. Maybe it just doesn't like cold start.

Message: I've had this same problem when I first got my 01 rc 4.7 auto. The problem I've come to find is the torque converter draining. If you let it sit for like 8 hours the fluid will drain back into the pan and a cold start and immediately putting it into gear won't give it a chance to fill itself back up... so you stall. After I started letting it set and run for like 30 seconds and then driving it was fine. It would also stall (or come close) when I pulled off the freeway into work and parked, but that was just due to a dirty air filter.

Message: thats likely, but you should give your truck ( or any vehicle at least a 30 second start-up before shifting anyways, it gives everything ( tranny, power steering, coolant, oil, etc) a chance to lube up, and warm up..... your rack n pinion steering, the pump, tranny and valvetrain will last much longer that way. start-up is the harshest environment on any engine.

Message: my truck sometimes almost dies on startup (down to around 350 rpms) the pcm senses it, and revs up to around 1200 for about 3 seconds then it idles fine.... WTF?? it only does this on COLD startup (in neutral/park) without me touching the gas pedal.. i think a PCM flash is in order for me. my TB is clean and i have good plugs. it won't do it, even if it sits for an hour or 2. just when the engine is completely cool :-/ it idles around 500 with the a/c off and around 650 or so with the air/drfrost on (like it should ALL the time)
