Message: Just purchased a 4.7l, Quad, 2wd. Looking for the best bolt-on HP upgrades to add hp/torque for towing. Does anyone have dyno #'s for exhaust upgrades, air intakes, chips etc. Looking for real #'s not the manufacter claims.

Message: Congrats buddy on your purchase. If you like rumble go for an exhaust. But if you want overall power and torque i would recomend a throttle body spacer and an intake system. The exhaust frees up alot of air but you dont have any extra air going in. Remember the more air flow you get through the motor the more hp you are going to get. These three things will probably run you about $600 total. A nice exhaust installed at your local muffler shop will run abou 350 and the intake and throtle body spacer will run about 150 a piece.

Message: The Throttle body spacers are a waste of money. they dont work, get a Flowmaster muffler series 50 delta flow, use the existing pipe and pay 200.00 for the Muffler install. I use a drop in K&N filter, I like the way my 4.7 performs now, and Ii have two Daks with the same mods..:) Chips are a waste.get the PCM reflashed for the best performance, and check out krcperformance.com speedtweaks.com for extras.

Message: I put a flowmaster exhaust on my 00 quadcab and noticed that throttle response was down.I confirmed this with a 0-60 run and sure enough it dropped .8 seconds. I am going to install a cold air intake soon and hopefully this will bring the 4.7 back to life.

Message: do intake before exhaust. The stock exhaust
is actually a very efficient system, I changed
mine just to be louder than sin.(Dynomax
Ultra Flow Race welded muffler--21" long and
6" round--straight through style +3" catback)
You can make a homebrew intake, approx
$30 worth of ABS piping and/or sched 40 PVC
+K&N filter(worth every dime) or splurge on a
360 intakez or Ztube.
check the number stamped on your throttle
body, if it is a 2001 or 2002, it came with the
68mm, you can pull that off, port and polish it
(use a dremel and take your time)
change the thermostat to 180 ($5.95 at local
autoparts store--Robert Shaw GT755-180) 4.7
loves to run well when it is cold.
Chips are generally not recomended for
towing, so I would avoid them, expecially the
Jet (doesnt do anything) and avoid the TB
spacer (doesnt add any HP, might gain some
torque, but thats it)
You can pull of your stock belt driven fan (as
long as you have the electric fan aswell) so
far this mod free'd up a lot of wasted power.
good luck, and congrats on the wise choice of
motors!
D
01/4.7/every mod above, plus the non
recomended ones (jet2 and TB spacer) + DJM
drop 3-6

Message: I'm also a new Dakota owner. I just picked up a 2000 Club Cab with the 4.7 . I've been looking around for Dakota sites that didn't focus on just the RT. This place is great...lots of info. I feel good that there is a resource like this to ask questions and find info on perf. parts.
I love it!!!

Message: 8/10,it was no lie,ive had the flowmaster for 2weeks now and before i installed it i was 9.4 to sixty since then my best time is 10 seconds flat that = 6/10. I changed plugs and the best is 9.8 seconds so yes im slower to sixty by 4/10 of a sec. Better but still slower. you can feel the lose in throtle response.Dont believe me get a 4.7 auto and put a 50 flowmaster on it!

Message: Did you go with a single in dual out Flowmaster 50? If so that is your problem. The 4.7's like the single in single out. I have the catback from flowmaster for my truck (2001 CC 4.7 Auto) and after installation I gained 1-2 tenths in 0-60 times and have better throttle response. And it sounds soooo good.

Message: Andy,
You probly won't find a Tstat for a 4.7 in a parts store, I sure as heck can't. Fortunately, it's the same thermostat that is used in the 5.9L and 5.2L trucks, which are tremendously easier to find. If they ask you if you want a thermostat gasket, don't bother getting it. The Tstat on the 4.7 (not sure bout the 5.9/5.2) has a rubber gasket that fits around the lip of the thermostat, you can just reuse that. The gasket they would sell you would be a craptacular paper gasket that matches the thermostat housing (and does nothing, the 4.7 will still leak coolant without that rubber seal on the Tstat).
Tell them you got a 5.2L or 5.9L and you'll be good

Didn't lose any power. Love that sound.
Got most of the typical mods. I am going to do the cams next I think. I hear you will actually NOTICE the gain. By the BUTT DYNO anyway.
So far each other mod didn't give too much to notice.
Turn upi your volume then click HERE to hear the exhaust.
